Gnarrows Race is ON!

July 8, 2012 By frenchy

The race is on today. High Noon. Get there early if you want to race! As far as I can tell all roads are currently open. Forecast for today has dry early then a good chance of rain this afternoon… hopefully after the race. Most of the rain and mudslides over the past 24 hours have been below the narrows. I guess we’ll see when we get up there but my guess is it should be a fine race level for today and if the road does get closed we can still access the narrows via Rist Canyon. I also just checked the Long Draw gauge and they turned off the water this morning so by tomorrow we’re going to be well below race levels – meaning this is you’re chance!

Now let’s do this!

Pine View 2.25 at 0900 and BLACK

July 7, 2012 By frenchy

Our last rain was hours ago and the Riv is still running BLACK with brown caps instead of whitecaps. Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 71. East wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Tonight Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 55. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Flooding rains are expected through Monday.

Listen folks- Flooding is going to happen- not “may” happen. If you insist on coming up this weekend, pay attention to the Wx, be heads up, and if the rain is heavy and the Riv starts to rise- head for higher ground! We don’t need any more statistics in the Canyon this year. Have fun and be safe!

Next Round of Problems from High Park Fire

July 6, 2012 By frenchy

We have Flash Flood warnings and experiences throughout the Poudre Canyon today, tonight and through Monday. I don’t know if the Road/Riv will be open tomorrow, it was closed for a spell today. The river is definitely up and BLACK tonight. I have not put eyes on the rock, but I am going to guess 2.7.

We have had two major mud slides in Poudre Park and expecting more. If you do come up here, use extreme caution. Again, I am not sure if the road will be open tomorrow, and if things go south…again… I won’t have time to report on the PRR.

Stay safe. Stay Smart.
