Play Parks
This page contains links to resources and discussions centered around building a whitewater park on the Poudre River.
There are currently there are two separate play park building initiatives in the works, one in downtown Fort Collins, and another in LaPorte. Both initiatives could become a reality provided there is sufficient community support behind these projects. The message here is, GET INVOLVED and we could well have our very own play park in the near future!!
Currently the more promising initiative is one for building a whitewater park on the Poudre River in LaPorte, CO. This project is being spearheaded by Mandy Kotzman and is gaining traction, both from the paddling community, but more importantly with the city of LaPorte! To learn about this project, be sure to visit the following page and send a letter of support immediately: http://www.poudrerockreport.com/play-parks/laporte/
The second initiative is for building a whitewater park in downtown Fort Collins. This project dates back to the late 1990′s, and until just a couple of years ago was spearheaded by Matt Evans. Over the years, a tremendous amount of work went in to making a play park in Fort Collins a reality for all of us to enjoy. Unfortunately, efforts to build a play park in downtown Fort Collins have stalled when Matt Evans, then owner of The Mountain Shop, moved away from Fort Collins. All efforts to build a play park in downtown Fort Collins remain at a stand-still as of today. The opportunity to build a play park in downtown Fort Collins is still there, but requires some leadership to organize and revive the project.
