Pine View 6.0 at 0630

May 31, 2014 By frenchy

Very bouncy again, but I’ll call this an even 6.0. Currently 52˚F, cloudy and damp. Hewlett gauge still at 7.77 and 4942.7 CFS. Which means perhaps under candlelight at midnight it was only 6.0. Another correction, the location of the water crossing the FOG line at MM107- that would be sandbag corner, just below Yard Sale and Three Way. Dave Dennis is on way up to check it out. Enjoy!!

Today’s expected Wx: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 74. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Tonight A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. South wind 6 to 10 mph becoming west northwest after midnight.

Pine View 6.1 at 0020 (midnight for rest of ya)

Holy Shit, this is the first time I have ever had the chance to witness the Rock over 6. Under spotlight, and warning from Larimer County Dispatch that water is over the road at Stove Prairie, this is my first official night reading, and first reading above 6.

Hewlett Gauge shows 7.77 and 4942.7 CFS!! And, for records sake, this is 15′ below the wall at Camp Falbo. We only dropped 3′ of snowpack at JWR from 49″ to 46″ with 27.2″ SWE. And an overnight of a mere 36˚F, with a current temp of 41˚F.

Will do a proper time Wx forecast, but for now they are expecting: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

Saturday Night A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable.

From Camp Falbo…

6.27 ft on the Hewletts gauge. Hewletts peaked at 6.84 at 0758. It’s been up and down since, possibly due to reservoir management in an attempt to minimize the flood potential at peak. The Poudre is over flood stage in Greeley.

Currently 65˚F, overcast and Damp. The wave at the Rock is pretty significant, showing the 5 bar and then covering 5.5 bar- so a Drive-By-Reading will fluctuate greatly.

Today’s expected Wx: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Temperature falling to around 65 by 5pm. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west northwest. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tonight A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Calm wind becoming west northwest around 5 mph after midnight.

Press Release from Ft. Collins PD on River Use

May 29, 2014 By frenchy

Partial Use Restriction on the Poudre River
Released on Thursday, May 29, 2014

Fort Collins Police Services has issued a partial use restriction prohibiting the operation of single-chamber air-inflated devices on the Cache la Poudre River within the City limits of Fort Collins until further notice. The restriction begins today, May 29, at 5 p.m. and is in effect until further notice.

The restriction applies to all air inflated devices that have only one single air compartment, such as inner tubes, air mattresses and small inflatable rafts. It does not apply to white water canoes, kayaks, and multi-chambered air-inflated vessels such as those used by commercial rafting companies.

The Poudre River is experiencing above average runoff and water levels. This coupled with other circumstances and conditions have led City officials to issue the partial use restriction order. In consultation with the Poudre Fire Authority, the runoff and water levels are causing significant amounts of debris to flow down the River, creating the likelihood of increased incidents of water recreation accidents and injuries to river users and public safety/rescue personnel.

These conditions are anticipated to extend over several weeks. The partial use restriction will be reassessed daily and remain in effect until further notice.

Pine View 5.3 at 0615 (full report)

Warm Wx and above freeing overnight lows in the high country leads to more spike of Riv. Caught wind the Water Commissioners plan to release additional water to accommodate expected increases in run-off!

Folks- Recreate Smart!! Tubers- this is NOT the time of year for tubing. Water’s too high and too cold. Novice and beginner boaters (open and closed)- the Filter Plant isn’t “Just the Filter Plant” at these water levels. That’s it for my soap box.

Today’s expected Wx: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Light and variable wind becoming west southwest 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tonight Scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. West wind 5 to 13 mph becoming north northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Enjoy!
