Flash Flood WARNING

July 27, 2012 By frenchy

Boaters and anglers- the NWS has issued a Flash Flood WARNING for the Poudre River and ALL of her tributaries in the High Park Fire and Hewlett Gulch Fire burn areas! Tributaries include watersheds that may not normally flow water except during MAJOR flooding rains.

A WARNING means flooding is imminent or already in progress.

This Flash Flood Warning is valid until 1600hrs today. This means we can expect to see the river come up, blacken and have more debris floating in her. We may also see mudslides close the road for unspecified periods of time. Do NOT attempt to drive in moving water across the road!

Be SAFE. Be SMART.

So, on my morning run, the water was right in the middle of the line at 1.5. When I drove past on my way to work, I couldn’t see the line at all, making it 1.6 and indicating water rising between 0600 & 0700, which isn’t typical…but nothing’s real typical this year. Water isn’t any darker than yesterday, perhaps even a tad clearer.

Was 62˚F and overcast with a slight breeze- absolutely beautiful morn in the canyon. NOAA expects Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. North wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Tonight Isolated showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 55. North wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Still running black, but that hasn’t seemed to stop the river enthusiasts from playing. Of note- the huge eddy at the bottom of Picnic Rock is currently one large mud bar. Thinking about opening a “Mud Spa” in the Canyon…

Was 62.3˚F, sunny and calm at 7. NOAA expects A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.
