Pine View 2.7 at 0700

May 25, 2010 By frenchy

Yesterday’s cooler wx tempered the rise of the Riv today. Currently 43.9F, sunny and calm. Wx.com expects the high today to be 72F, partly cloudy with a mere 10% chance for precip. I would expect higher flows this weekend.

Pine View: 2.7ft @ 7am & 2.4ft @ 6pm

North Fork Access & Spencer Heights log

May 24, 2010 By frenchy

Upper North Fork River Access-

Notice to all Upper North Fork boaters: Access to the river from the highway bridge is private property and CLOSED TO ALL BOATERS!

Please respect the landowners by following the guidebook directions to the put-in. Accessing the river from the highway means trespassing on private land. In speaking with several of the landowners at the put-in yesterday, it’s clear that groups of boaters are opting to trespass in order to put-in at the bridge. Please respect the landowners and don’t be tempted to put-in at the bridge.

To access the put-in, drive 1/4 miles past the bridge and park at the Trails End trailhead public parking area. From the trailhead, follow the trail above the river and private land about a mile southeast before the trail drops back down to the river.

p.s. On another note, the Upper North Fork of the Poudre was running at a historical high yesterday. According to the landowners, the river was the highest they’ve seen it in the 29 years they’ve lived there. It’s running at a prime HIGH level and is as clean as its ever been. Come and get it.

Spencer Heights Tree Update-

The tree blocking the entrance to Cyclotron (Spencer Heights) has been removed. Thanks to all who participated in the extrication efforts!

Sportsman gauge was 2ft yesterday morning with a trickle coming down Tunnel. At this rate, Spencer Heights will likely be running at prime flows by later this week.

Optimists might call it a 3 today, as the wave is lapping the bar, but realistically it’s just below 3. Currently 43.5, sunny and calm. Wx.com expects a high of 75F with slight chance of rain.

I ran the Lower North Fork with a crew of 5 on a 14′ raft yesterday. Other than the four fences we had to portage (and the sunburn), it was a glorious trip. Boat On!

Sportsman’s gauge: 2ft with trickle coming down Tunnel. Spencer Heights = LOW

Upper North Fork:  HIGH. According to landowners, the upper north fork is running at a historical high (30+ year high). Awesome level. Be safe, respect the landowners, and follow guidebook directions to the put-in. Do not access from the bridge – this is trespassing. See next thread for details.

Upper North Fork was reportedly running MEDIUM-HIGH yesterday

Little South Fork is LOW (.7 on the gauge)
